Our preview of Nets vs Hornets: two struggling Eastern Conference sides, a muddled injury picture and a home/away split that makes this tougher to read than the standings suggest.

Brooklyn Nets host Charlotte Hornets in the NBA at 00:30 UK time on Thursday 5 November. Both teams are struggling, and the injury reports do not agree with each other, so the picture is unclear.

Below we look at form, the season splits and the team news, without giving away our own selection.

Nets and Hornets form and standings

Brooklyn sit 13th in the Eastern Conference with a record of one win and six defeats. Their last five read LWLLL, and they have scored 739 points while conceding 799 so far.

Charlotte are ninth at 3-5, but they arrive on a four-game losing run, with their last five reading LLLLW from most recent backwards. Their points for and against stand at 779 and 869, a heavier deficit than Brooklyn's.

The sides have already met this season. Charlotte won the opener on 21 October by 110-103, according to the press reports. We have no other recent head-to-head games to draw on.

Home and away splits in the NBA this season

Brooklyn's numbers differ sharply by venue. They have won 25.0% of home games against 42.9% away, and they score 105.0 points per game at home against 116.6 on the road. They concede 116.0 at home and 114.1 away, so the home defence has not offered much shelter.

Charlotte show the reverse pattern. Their home win rate is 42.9% and their away rate is 20.0%. On the road they average 93.8 points and concede 105.0, while at home they score 99.4 and concede 112.6.

These samples are small, with 11 games played for Brooklyn and 12 for Charlotte. Last season Brooklyn won 29.3% at home and 20.5% away across 85 games, while Charlotte won around 52% both home and away across 89, so early-season splits may settle.

Injury news for Nets vs Hornets

Availability is the main talking point. For Charlotte, Grant Williams is out with a right hamstring strain. Kon Knueppel is listed as probable on the NBA report for 3 November but as out by Fox Sports, so his status is in conflict. Coby White is probable with a left calf injury.

Brooklyn have Egor Demin out with a right bone bruise. Joshua Jefferson has a back problem with no return timetable, and Mikel Brown Jr. is on a minutes restriction. The latest report should be checked close to tip-off, as these lists can change.

Neither side is out of the season yet, and with Brooklyn at 1-6 and Charlotte on a slide, both have reason to want the win. No betting alerts or integrity concerns were reported for this fixture, and any wager carries risk.
